Lola
Love the enchanting fantasy character created by Lola Blank grew up in
the boogie down Bronx of New York City fame.
She
was one of an amazing harem of six sisters. All of the girls were incredibly
talented, out-spoken, domineering and loving. She was the second to the
oldest and the most private of the six girls. Lola was a loner and she
knew exactly what she wanted and therefore, she was very clever and focused
about obtaining what ever it was that she wanted. Lola wanted to be the
best dancer in the projects where she lived, and… Whatever Lola
wants Lola gets… she was soon discovered by a talent scout looking
for new talent. Lola landed her first film role in the Movie “Up
The Down Staircase.” The inhabitants of The Bronx River Projects
started calling her “Hollywood” after she was in yet another
film “The Landlord,” starring Beau Bridges and Diana Sands
all before she finished Jr. high School. Wherever
Lola went she commanded attention. By being in the right place at the
right time she was plucked right out of the audience by director Ron Mack,
and given a role in her first theatre production with the Robert Hooks
Group Theatre Workshop, which later became known as the Negro Ensemble
Company, in New York City’s renowned Greenwich Village. Lola graduated
from the high school of Performing Arts as a drama major and was performing
on and off-Broadway before she even finished high school. After graduating
from Hofstra University with a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology,
fame soon beckoned as she was invited to appear with James Brown and the
James Brown Revue. Lola sang, danced and thrilled audiences with Mr. Brown
as his personal dancer for over ten outrageous years. Ms. Love’s
many famous appearances with “The God Father of Soul” were
countless, including: Soul Train, Midnight Special, In Concert and various
other popular television shows. One of the many highlights of Lola Love’s
amazing association with “The Godfather” was her memorable
and mesmerizing performance at the Ali vs. Forman Fight “The Rumble
In The Jungle” in Zaire, Africa. The incomparable Oscar Award winning
documentary “When We Were Kings” featured her sensuous and
sexy moves throughout the movie and the video that promoted the film featuring
the Fugees. The luscious and sexy Lola Love has traveled to five continents
as an Ambassador of Good Will for the United States of America. Lola Love
was an instant success in countries like Senegal, Gabon, Zaire, Italy,
England, Germany, Japan, just to name a few. Wherever Lola performed she
had instant fans and admirers calling her name and begging and crying
to be in her presence… Returning to the states Lola was invited
to perform with Kid Creole and the Coconuts at the infamous Joseph Papp’s
Public Theatre. While at a photo shoot for Kid Creole’s album cover,
once again, Lola’s salacious, irresistible and dominating presence
attracted her husband, producer and Blank Tapes recording studio owner
Bob Blank. |
““Music
makes me move, so music production and song writing became an important
part of my focus.” |
Lola
co-produced with her husband Bob Blank the #1 hit “Over Like A Fat
Rat” for Fonda Rae (currently sampled on the triple platinum CD
by SWV), and then became an artist on Island Records with “Wax The
Van” (one of the top ten records of the year according to “The
Face” magazine). Lola’s voice and music continue to live on
in the fabulous world of sampled music, most notable on “Bango”
by the Todd Terry Project and music by the dance group “DeeLite.
Lola’s publishing companies Lola-La and Lo Lo Lo Music holds publishing
rights for, among others, the “Theme From ‘The Super’”
and “The Montel Williams Show”, (both themes written by her
son Kenn Michael f/k/a Kenny Blank), as well as over 200 titles on the
Muzak Network. Lola’s commercial credits include the Pringles jingle
(Once You Pop) as well as music for numerous television shows.
